We are the powers that be
And we want you to stay
right where you are,
buy a house and buy a car,
buy lots of any thing,
and go out to bars!
And then just keep on consuming.
What have you bought today?
Please keep on assuming,
this is the best way!
Best way to spend your life,
your heart-beating time,
We’ll see you at work,
Nine to five!
Isn’t that the only way,
that you can stay alive?
You are much better off
slaving away,
and paying any tax
that we want you to pay.
Just hand over the money,
and don’t dare go away.
You don’t need to know
what taxes go to anyway!
We can handle that!
Education’s had some ‘setbacks’,
But our military is doing great!
Expansion at this rate?
An empire’s must be right on its way!
One whose drones can find you,
any time, any day!
So if you ever dare to think,
about life a different way,
Like thinking beyond the system,
or having something to say,
Just remember,
we’re a just a phone tap away.
